James Kyson | “If it’s something you truly love, then work hard on your gift, and be willing to share it for a greater good.”

When we first approached James for an interview, we really didn’t know what to expect. Here was a man that has created a successful acting career for himself playing key roles in a number of hit shows and movies (notably Ando Masahashi from Heroes). Because of this, we expected to keep our level of professionalism at its highest during his interview. We were pleasantly surprised when James invited us to spend the day with him at the LA County Fair to hold his interview. The next few hours were made up of fun rides, watching live Chinese acrobatics, and eating fattening carnival foods! Who would have known James would be such a fun guy to hang out with?  Read on as James shares stories of his career as a rapper, going from the corporate world to entertainment, and his development as an actor.

Michelle Krusiec | “Listen to your heart, listen to your instincts and listen to your stomach.”

She pulled off the timeless tomboy lesbian role with grace and sexiness alongside OAer Lynn Chen in Saving Face, and you’ve recently seen her tongue-in-cheeking with Chevy Chase in Community. Regardless of the medium—film, television, theater—accomplished actress Michelle Krusiec has the ability to unrelentingly mesmerize her audience with a pureness and truth that stems from her courage and willingness to be vulnerable. Impressive resume aside (not to mention learning fluent Mandarin through the roles she’s played), Michelle has an exceptionally unique story to tell, from her eccentric adoptive mother to traveling the world over before she turned 21 to her interesting take on stereotypes. Oh, and her house is a museum of unbelievable artifacts including a Louis Vuitton suitcase from the 1890′s. Fierce? That’s just how Michelle rolls.

Arden Cho | “Don’t be afraid to fail. Unless you fail, you will never really succeed.”

The most commonly used word to describe this week’s OA feature is beautiful. Jaw-dropping. Stunning. Gorgeous. So beautiful she was the face of Clinique’s international campaign. It’s hard to believe that she, too, has struggled with self-image; she, too, was shy; and she, too, has been pressured by society to alter her body. This explains why Arden Cho—multi-talented actress, model, and singer—is in fact one of the most down-to-earth, pleasant “dorks” whose mission in life is not fame or fortune, but to inspire the next generation, especially Asian American girls to accept themselves and pursue their passion. The world is beginning to witness the exciting fruits of her painstaking labor, and she is on track to becoming an international role model. Yes, Arden is the living breathing embodiment of OA’s mission.

Jimmy Wong | “Never stop working. If you’re doing something you love, then it shouldn’t be a problem. “

Just a typical day in the life of OA: ziplining [and crashing] through our interviewee’s studio. Yes, you read correctly. There is a zipline inside Jimmy Wong’s headquarters where all the magic you see on YouTube happens. That’s just how he gets the creative juices flowing—ziplines, Totoros, and Smash Brothers. This singer-songwriter-actor and recent winner of YouTube’s NextUp contest is best known for his exceptionally clever love song response to Alexander Wallace. That, however, just scratches the surface of this brilliant all-around artist who not only posts covers that often put the original artists to shame, but boasts equally creative original content in the form of songs and skits…and a few big surprises in the near future. His secret to success? Don’t ever get realistic. That, and memorizing pi to the 30th digit.
